While the Nokia N96 is nothing new, its release in the USA and beyond certainly is. And it’s coming all right – sometime in the fourth quarter of 2008, and bringing with it support for North American 3G bands. That’s the good news.
And now the bad news: the N96 is going to cost a whopper of a lot of money. Like $895 bucks.
Is it worth it? Tough call. With yesterday’s announcement of the N85, the N96 is Nokia’s most powerful slider by only a slight margin, which includes a .2″ bigger screen, 16 gigabytes of internal memory (+external), US 3G, and the infamous kick stand.
It also has to compete against some other very high-powered smartphones – Samsung Omnia, SE Xperia X1, LG KC910 to name a few.
On a side note, it’s interesting to see how smartphone prices have increased dramatically over the past year as phone makers continue to churn out fully-featured models with touch-screens, kick stands, and other fun stuff.
